Mastering Fielding
Catches win matches. Here is how to build world-class reflexes.
The 'Ready' Position
Great fielders are never static. Keep your knees bent, weight on the balls of your feet, and eyes level. This allows you to explode in any direction the moment the bat connects with the ball.
Drill: The High Catch
To simulate match pressure, we use the "Skier" drill:
- Coach hits the ball high with a tennis racket.
- Fielder must call "Mine!" loudly to avoid collisions.
- Catch with "soft hands" (giving with the ball) to prevent it popping out.
Attacking the Ball
Don't wait for the ball to come to you. Attack it! In our academy, we teach the "pick up and throw" motion in one fluid movement to maximize run-out chances.
